[edit2] After more research I'm still not happy with the image sizes in the gallery. Here are a few of the "right click -> view image" image sizes:

769px x 1200px (The Joker) 40% of original size: 1925px x 3008px

800px x 600px (The Butterfly) 100% of original size: 800px x 600px

1496px x 1496px (Phi) 100% of original size: 1496px x 1496px

1202px x 1200px (Pegasus) 56% of original size: 2128px x 2124px

1204px x 1200px (Dark Angel) 48% of original size: 2509px x 2500px

900px x 1200px (Haven) 38% of original size: 2400px x 3200px

1200px x 1600px (Guardian of the Waterfall v2) 100% of original size 1200px x 1600px

1581px x 1200px (Arrow to the Moon) 29% of original size: 5533px x 4200px

1600px x 1091px (Their Freedom) 27% of original size: 5940px x 4050px

1600px x 1200px (Facebook) 40% of original size: 4000px x 3000px

Based on these results I am boycotting portfolios. For me, these images are too large to be public even with watermarks.

1200px and 1600px come up a lot, they are probably the limits, but I don't get when it uses 1200 and when it uses 1600. Phi seems to have got stuck with a "meh, it's between the two just leave it".

I'm so annoyed Phi is showing at 100%!

I feel like even when there does seem to be some limit it is too large an image.

I recommend password protecting your portfolios and only showing them to people you 100% trust not to steal your art OR taking the time to resize your images and upload them all directly to the portfolio.


Hopefully dA will fix this. At the moment they seem to think everyone we'll show our portfolios to will be trustworthy, when in fact I would trust them less than regular gallery viewers. I have heard cases of people having their art stolen by prospective clients.

[edit] Sorry, I was partly mistaken!! It's not full size on the gallery section. But the HOMEPAGE image IS fullsize. So, it's safe to use your deviations in the gallery section but not as the homepage image in the look & feel section. [/edit]



If you are using Beta Portfolios (the new ones) DON'T USE IMAGES FROM YOUR GALLERY IF THE FILE IS FULL RES!!!!!

Even if they are set to 400px wide in your gallery, portfolio viewers ARE SHOWN THE FULL SIZE IMAGE. It is resized on the portfolio but zooming or right click -> view shows it full size.


There is no option to set the max width.


So, basically, at the moment you have to manually resize and reupload all your art if you don't want the full size to be accessible.


I'm pretty disappointed with some things so far.

There's no option to copy descriptions from the gallery, so if you have to credit stock you have to go get the info from your gallery. Kinda defeats the point of being able to use images already in your gallery, except not having to re-upload.

Image descriptions are limited to 200 characters. That's barely more than a tweet for crying out loud. I'm not sure the limit is actually working at the moment. You don't get a warning for going over, but it probably does still cut it off.

Oh, and links don't work in descriptions. So much for crediting stock


Hopefully these issues will be addressed, but I doubt it. Beta testing these days is usually "hey, you get it for a few days before we just release it as is anyway".
